Terry the
Traumasaurus is a paramedic dinosaur
whose job it is to help promote the well
being and safety of children in your
community. He is a great spokesman for
EMS in Saskatchewan!
In 1959 the SRA-Saskatchewan Road
Ambulance was created as a non-profit organization to
answer the need for a unified body to represent the ambulance profession
in Saskatchewan. The organization was established to provide guidance,
support and a common voice on behalf of all ambulance services within
Saskatchewan. In later years, the name changed to SAA-Saskatchewan
Ambulance Association.
In May 2000, the Saskatchewan
Ambulance Association merged with the Saskatchewan Emergency Medical
Services Leadership Forum to create the Saskatchewan Emergency
Medical Services Association. Building on the foundation of the
past, SEMSA continues to forge a future for Emergency Medical
Services (EMS) in this province.
Today SEMSA represents 83 out of 109 ambulance services within
the province of Saskatchewan. Our mission today has evolved to play a
large role in the "best practices" for this province. However we remain
grounded to our past providing guidance, support and a common voice on
behalf of all.

"YOUR LIFE is OUR MISSION"
Calgary E.M.S. chief Tom Sampson says Cpl. Michael Starker
was one of those guys who would always help those in need, and
that's what he died doing.
Starker, a paramedic with the city of Calgary for the
past three years, died in Afghanistan Tuesday after his
patrol with the 15 Field Ambulance Regiment was ambushed.
Sampson says Starker was one of two Calgary paramedics who
are currently serving in Afghanistan with the Canadian
forces.
The other paramedic has expressed interest in bringing
Starker's body back to Calgary, where the slain soldier was
born and raised.
Sampson says Starker had served with the military a
decade ago and after helping Calgarians for several years,
he went to Afghanistan to help others.
He also says when good people like Starker die before
their time, it's like the sun going down while it's still
daytime. (The Canadian Press, ccg)
Line of Duty Death in BC
It is with the utmost sadness that BC Ambulance Service (BCAS)
confirms the sad loss of paramedic Michael Gray as result of
a medical issue suffered while he was working for BCAS in
the Lower Mainland yesterday. The 39 year old
paramedic, an 11 year veteran of BCAS, was working from
Station 246 in Vancouver, and had previously worked at many
other stations including a lengthy background in the Fraser
Valley. Michael suffered a sudden and inexpected collapse at
the wheel of his ambulance while returning from dropping off
a patient at hospital. His ambulance subsequently
collided with parked vehicles, however there were no people
in the other vehicles and no injuries were suffered by
anyone else as result of the incident.
Despite the heroic efforts of Michael’s partner, the BCAS
dispatch team, the Vancouver Fire first responders, the
responding BCAS BLS and ALS ambulance crews, and the
Vancouver General Hospital Staff, Michael was pronounced
late yesterday afternoon. This incident is a great
shock to all at BCAS and the passing of a colleague is an
unexpected event and never one that can be prepared for.
The BCAS Critical Incident Stress Peer Team have been
providing support to all those involved in the incident and
BCAS have provided all staff with access to the Critical
Incident Stress Peer Team and employee assistance program
services available. Union representatives have also been
working closely with the Regional management team.
