Emergency
Medical Services (EMS) week is a week of celebration dedicated to the
achievements of the men and women who daily, are on the front lines
within the EMS community. These men and women who are first responders,
emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers
and other team members like emergency room physicians and emergency room
nurses deliver life saving skills to people daily.
With advances in modern
technology, exciting new medical procedures, and dedication to
countless hours of skilled training, the emergency room on wheels
will arrive at any scene of an emergency incident prepared too
provide essential life saving skills and treatment.
But today's EMS is more than just
an ambulance. We at SEMSA are committed to provide the EMS services,
and the communities they serve, as much health
education and information as possible. SEMSA will be providing
many educational and information resources for EMS Week.
Continue to watch this area for the highlights and of course photos
EMS Week
brings together local communities and medical personnel
to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those
who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of
medicine's "frontline"! |

|
| |
 | Try to encourage your local
council to sign a proclamation to recognize EMS Week
in your community. It is an excellent way to
for local communities to gain awareness of EMS WEEK!
|
|
| |
 | Every community has restaurants
and lots of people frequent those restaurants for
nourishment or just a up of coffee. Partnering
with your local restaurants and having EMS WEEK
placemats on the table to promote the week and your
local EMS service is an excellent inexpensive way to
get the word out about EMS!
|
|
| |
 | Distributing a coloring book is
also a great opportunity to engage the young
children of pre- and elementary schools. SEMSA
has a coloring book for anyone to download and use
in addition to special "Terry the Traumasaurus"
coloring books for sale if desired. Visit the
Community Development page for more details on
our mascot and merchandise!

 | Have you ever thought about a
Blood Pressure Clinic! Setting up a table in
your local grocery store with information about your
service or health facts and tips for those that stop
by and get their blood pressure checked. This
is a great interactive public relations event that
offers a one-on-one engagement of the public.
Here is a sample BP Clinic Poster you may wish to
use for ideas!

 |
Bill Stuffers!
A great lead up the week of awareness is to put
informational pamphlets or "stuffers" in any
outgoing correspondence to educate and promote EMS
Week!
|
|
| |
 | Meet and Greet!
 | Most communities have
long-term care or nursing homes that residents
of are not always capable or able to leave as
frequently as others. Wouldn't it be a
great gesture to visit the care home and give a
flower (carination) to the residents and
introduce yourself! It is a fantastic way
to promote staff and service in the event that
residents may need you on day...they might
remember you and feel much better when in need!
|
|
|
| |
 | Helmet Safety Campaign!
 | Partnerships with local
confectionaries, ice cream parlors or movie
rental stores to promote helmet safety and
awareness by handing out coupons for individuals
spotted wearing helmets and/or other safety
gear! Free ice cream, slush or movie
rentals is a great way to encourage and reward
helmet safety! |

| |
 | EMS Fundraiser Barbeque or
Pancake Breakfast!
 | Coordinating a BBQ or pancake
breakfast to raise money for a local cause is
another public relations success. Teaming
up with local fire, police or RCMP can make the
logistics of it all a little easier to handle!
|
|
|
| |
 | EMS Stanley Cup Challenge!
 |
Teaming up
local emergency services (fire, police, RCMP,
conservation officers, etc.) and challenging the
local high school grades 11 and 12 to a floor
hockey or basketball game! This is an
excellent way to involve adolescents in raising
awareness of EMS Week! Prizes for the
winners, sponsors to bet on a winner and MVP
awards are excellent components that can be
incorporated into the event!
